We woke up to a beautiful and sunny morning in Stockholm. So we quickly showered, dressed, went downstairs to eat some breakfast and were soon on our way to explore. We didn't want to waste one minute of the sunshine. We walked across the street and down to the waterfront where we bought a metro ticket for the next 24 hours. It will allow us to ride both the ferries and the metro/subway to get to anywhere we wanted to go, and maybe even save our feet a little bit if we could. Jason had one thing he really wanted to do here in Stockholm, and it was to visit the Vasa Museum. www.vasamuseet.se/en The Vasa Museum is the home to the enormous ship of the same name. The Vasa ship capsized and sank in Stockholm 1628. After 333 years on the sea bed the mighty warship was salvaged and the voyage could continue. Today Vasa is the world's only preserved 17th century ship and the most visited museum in Scandinavia. The Vasa is a massive ship. The heavy and elaborate carvings make it a stunning vessel. And its height and heaviness makes it very easy to understand why it sunk on its maiden voyage. It needed to be wider to be able to stay upright. Today on the ferry system we also caught just a tiny glimpse of the Archipelago system that Stockholm calls home. 30,000 islands that dot this area and lead to the Baltic Sea. Our walk and metro tour also led us into some the subway stations. In Stockholm the underground is like a art gallery. Many stations are decorated beautifully. We stopped in Gamla Stan again today. We had a delicious lunch at a lovely italian place on a side street and did a little shopping too.
(Ethan, we found you something fun today, we hope you like it. xo ) We also enjoying the weather, and took far less pictures today. An evening drink, and we're in for the night! The clouds have returned and its getting cooler again. But what a wonderful day we had!
