Greetings from our latest adventure. Here are the kids early early this morning at Detroit Metro when it was almost time to board. Our first flight is headed to Lost Wages...no wait I mean Las Vegas. From there we and thankfully our checked luggage will make the very quick connection to Salt Lake City, Utah. It is Utah where our adventure will start and finish. First a shout out and a Big Thank you to Grumpa Beaton for the early moring shuttle service. Second is a shout out to Brandon our hilarious flight attendant on our first leg. It is he who mentioned the Lost Wages destination, and many other hilarious little comments through out our almost 4 hour flight. The kids thought he was hysterical. Ethan's favourite was when he told those who wanted to smoke that he had special seats for them right out on the wing, where he would present a double feature film of - GONE WITH THE WIND and BYE BYE BIRDIE!!!! Our flight to Las Vegas was fantastic for what we could see from the plane. We caught sight of the Mississippi River, the Rockies near Denver and then an amazing view of the Grand Canyon. Here are some photos Ethan took from my tablet on the plnae. Our flight from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City was only about an hour, we made our way to baggage claim, and our bags were there waiting for us, we crossed the street to the car rental kiosk and also claimed our car immediatly ( with a free upgrade) - Thanks Enterprise. Our arrival in Salt Lake was easy, and great. Here is our wheeels for this trip- A brand new Ford Edge Titanium... we really like it. I took this picture of the kids right before we left the airport grounds, and honestly they were fast asleep within minutes of us heading out of town. After being up so early and two flights and the time changes... they were DONE!!!! I took pictures of them sleeping which they have both made me swear that I will not post... ah but what great leverage I have over them now don't I! haha While they slept, Jason and I enjoyed the solitude for a little while looking at our new surroundings. So with Michigan, Nevada and Utah already under our belt this morning we soon entered STATE #4. And yes it is only day 1. We will be back into Utah later in the trip.... but here's a state we will visit more than once on our journey. We didn't land in Salt Lake City until 12:15 local time. MT. So we only did a lot of driving today to cover as much ground as we could on this day. That will allow us to spend more time exploring other days. Here are some of the views we had from the highway today though. One of the coolest things we past was the Snake River Canyon. It weaves its way along the highway with us. So we past it several times. We have settled for the night in Boise, Idaho.
We are very tired, but excited for tomorrows adventures. Goodnight from BOISE!!! Day 2 of our grand adventure, and here we are in another new state! Checking this one off my 50 by 50 list! This post is brought to you by OREGON, the state with never ending geographical and geological changes...WHO KNEW? In planning this adventure we knew there was some plains, and we knew there would be trees. But we had no idea we would truly climb to the tops of those plains, and twist and turn back down into the deepest canyons, and then through hilled forest, and back out to the desert buttes. We also crossed wheat fields with amazing views of Mt. Hood and even Washington's Mt. Rainier in the distance. Our drive today was the longest we have planned for one day on this trip, but it was worth it. We saw so much today that we never knew OREGON would offer us. From the buttes and rocks we moved into a forest valley with Yellow Pines and Lodge pole tress. Then back out on the plains we went. Home Home on the Range...... where the skies are not cloudy all day!!! We saw so many wide open ranches today. Em says she's never seen so many cattle just wandering in the middle of nowhere. Our plan today was to head to the John Day Fossil Beds and Painted Hills. Geology and Paleontology is alive here. The Rocks show their millions of years of layers, and have added colour to the surface. To get there we had to drive through Picture Canyon.
Here are some the the amazing Painted Hills. From the Painted Hills we head north and wind our way across the canyons to find ourselves on top of the open prairie and seeing the most incredible views of the Snow Capped Mountains. We have ended our day on the shores of the Columbia River. In the town of The Dalles, Oregon. From our Hotel we can see across the river to Washington. Tomorrow we will follow the Columbia River National Scenic Drive http://www.fs.usda.gov/crgnsa and the Oregon Trail http://www.nps.gov/oreg/index.htm into Portland and the Pacific! So excited! Oh and by the way!!! We beat yesterdays heat record of 102.
Today while travelling through Cottonwood Canyon....IT WAS 110. God bless air conditioned cars!!!!! Good night from Oregon! What an amazing day we have had. We woke up bright and early for Pacific Coast Time, and got out on the road to enjoy everything we could today. We are trying to somewhat stay on EST, hopefully to give us more hours in our days, and to make it easier to adjust back to work the first day we are home. We left The Dalles, and followed the Historic Columbia River Highway. The highway gave us some pretty fantastic views of the Columbia River and the Forests around Mount Hood. Continuing down the Highway we came to The Cascade Locks and Dam. Here we got out of the car, because this is the infamous location on the Pacific Crest Trails crossing of the River from Oregon into Washington State. We explained to the kids that the Pacific Crest Trail starts at the Mexico/US border and goes all the way to the Canadian border, and that people start in the spring and walk the entire trail or parts of it. It is complete wilderness for most of it, and you only pack what you can carry for many months. The kids were inyrigued by this idea, so we showed them the trail and even walked just a little part of it. The part of the trail we walked is actually the BRIDGE of GODS, which took us from Oregon to Washington. We paid the .50 each toll and crossed to the other side and back.
From the Bridge of Gods we continued down river to the Falls area. We parked the car at Horsetail Falls and decided to take a hike. Stretching our legs and climbing the hills through the large sitka trees was beautiful. The hike took us about 1.5 hours. Luckily the weather on the west coast is cooler than the last few days so it was quite enjoyable. A little further down the road we also visited the very popular Multnomah Falls. After Multnomah Falls we had quickly arrived at our next destination. The city of Portland, Oregon. We made our way downtown, and quickly found a parking spot one block from where we were headed...and it shouldn't surprise anyone.... http://www.powells.com/ The Richard's went straight to Powell's Bookstore. Famous in this area, and known for their HUGE INVENTORY on 4 colour coded floors. There is a book I have been looking for which is only available in the US. Sure enough there it was waiting for me. We all picked up a new read, and left very happy. We were pretty hungry by this time, and the other thing Portland is well know for...it's many many breweries. We decided to have lunch at one of them downtown. http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/locations/portland We didn't plan on staying in the city for long... we are on a quest. It's to take the kids as west as we can go..... THE PACIFIC. The kids first time to see it. We drove straight west from Portland until we reached the town of Cannon Beach. A busy and bustling beach town. But we found a great parking spot and walked right out to Tillmook Rock. The kids excitement at seeing the ocean was priceless... they ran right out into it. And right back to me. It was COLD!!! But it didn't stop them from going back in. From Cannon Beach we headed north up highway 101/ And stopped at Fort Clatsop. http://www.nps.gov/lewi/planyourvisit/fortclatsop.htm Fort Clatsop is a National Historic Park, and is the location of Lewis and Clarks winter stay on the Pacific Coast. We visited the Fort, and of course got another stamp in our National Parks Passport. Ethan at the entry gate and Emmy with the Sacajewea statue. Look Auntie Janin- They took a Newfoundland Dog with them. His name was Seaman. We have had a couple Newfs in the Pugh Family. ![]() From Fort Clatsop we crossed the bridge at Astoria saying goodbye to Oregon and hello to Washington State for the next few days. We made our way to our hotel for the night. A gorgeous Beach House Resort on the Long Beach Peninsula. http://www.lighthouseresort.net/ is were we have checked in. It is gorgeous and right on the beach. Even cooler is the fact that inside the rooms are shells and pieces of driftwood left and signed by other visitors. We will be leaving one in the morning too. We made our way down to the beach earlier to find that driftwood, but we also found a few shells and one 6 legged, two clawed friend. As you see, we have had a very busy , but simply wonderful day... it is midnight back home. So it's time for bed for us too.
Good night from ...... It just seems like every day gets better and better on this trip. There is just so much magnificent scenery. Today we were headed for Olympic National Park. The pennisula in the top nw corner of the continental united states. Even more west than Seattle itself. We started our morning off by saying goodbye to Lighthouse Resort, and by filling in the guestbook in our room, and adding our message to the driftwood collection. ![]() We drove back down Long Beach, and hopped back on Hwy 101 going north. Olympic National Park is large. It explores not only the coast line, but also the interior of the pennisula as well. Our first big stop we made a few hours up the road was RUBY BEACH! The tide was out, making it an incredible playground of discoveries. We found creatures right there on the beach that we never imagined we would see. Please enjoy these incredible finds we captured on camera today. We are still in awe of the beauty and that we actually got to experience it. This is Ruby Beach!!!!!! Giant Anenomes and Starfish clung to the rocks. We were lucky enough to check one out pretty closely. Here are a few more of our finds today!!! Shrimp, Crabs, and Jellies. Exploring Ruby Beach! I loved watching Jason explore the small ocean weathered stones with the kids, and then teaching them to skip the stones in beach pools. We were sad to have to leave Ruby Beach. But we had more to see today. Our next stop was a bit up the road and a drive into the interior to Hoh Rainforest. Moss covered giants may be the best way to describe what we saw here. We of course made sure we got our Olympic National Park at the visitor center before leaving. Sometimes even the Rangers are impressed wth the kids collection of stamps. Heading further up the hwy we arrived in a town not known to many unless of course you are a fan of a certain book series called. TWILIGHT!!! We were just driving through, but we did manage to capture a few pictures of this little town that is definitely using their book and movie fame to their advantage. The Town Sign, Bella's Truck, and store fronts and advertising about the book series. We drove through town and were headed out to Rialto Beach at the LaPush Reservation that's when we saw the funniest Twilight book reference. Here are some pictures from Rialto Beach.
Our blog post today will be short and sweet! Because we spent our day doing only one thing! Whale Watching! We booked our tour way back in March when we started planning this trip, and it is because of the tour that we found ourselves in Port Angeles. http://pawhalewatch.com/ We got to sleep in a little bit this morning and made our way to the boat docks around 9:30. After a quick orientation from Captain Tom and our Naturalist Brooke, we set sail around 10:30. Out into the Straits of Juan de Fuca we went, sailing right into CANADIAN WATERS!!! We sailed by Victoria, and around the strait giving us amazing views of the Olympic Mountain range and Mt. Olympia behind us. Ethan scouts the waters! We found something!!!! ORCAS!!!!!! We also spotted HUMPBACKS!!!!! Look careful. See the blow hole mist in the first photo... or as our naturalist said, it's actually Humpback boogers shooting in the air. The kids thought that was hysterical. The day was beautiful and clear and the water wasn't too choppy. Our temperatures are definitely lower here on the coast than what we had earlier this week. But we don't mind that one bit. Because of being out on the water though we did bring along our jackets to help with the wind. It let us stay out on the top deck for the whole day and it let us see a few more friends that way like these SEA LIONS and SEALS !!!! The kids loved being outside and out of the car today!!!! We spent about 5 hours out on the water! It was a really enjoyable day. We have now arrived about 1.5 hours south east of Port Angeles in the city of Bremerton. Our hotel is right on the Puget Sound, and we can see the Ferry Dock. We had a nice meal at the waterfront. https://www.anthonys.com/ A little surf and turf to fill our bellies after a long day. Tomorrow we will board that ferry across the Puget to SEATTLE!!!! Good Night! Woke up bright and early and headed down to the ferry dock to book passage to Seattle. We wanted to be there early as the ferry only leaves once an hour and the ride to Seattle is an hour as well. We didn't have far to go as our hotel was right next to the docks and we could watch the ferries come in. The ferry ride took us from Bremerton through the Straits and over to the city of Seattle. It was a cool and windy morning to be on the water, but that didn't stop us from standing out on the deck to watch us approach the city. We only have a couple places we want to stop on our short visist to Seattle. The first is Pike Place Market. I love city and farmers markets. I had heard this one was extra special. I was not disappointed by all the colours, smells, and sounds. Fresh fish and seafood, local farmers fruit, fresh daily baked bread, and so much for for you to shop through. We picked up some yummy treats for a picnic later today. Here are some pictures from the market today. These cookies were GIANT!!!!! At the market you can also find the very first/ flagship STARBUCKS STORE too. When on the west coast you are sure to see one of these! Found a TOTEM POLE for the kids. It was on Em's bucket list for this trip. There was another werird thing we found at the market... The Gum WALL! I found it rather disturbing and gross. But lots of people love it apparently. The Gum wall started when a movie theatre owner wouldn't let people chew gum in his theatre, so the movie patrons would just stick it to the walll in the alley outside... and now everyone does it! From the market we headed a few blocks over to find the Klondike Rush National Park Museum. Here we learned about the men and women who sought their fortune in the Yukon/Klondike. They would start off here in Seattle, purchase all their supplies and catch a steamer to the north. It was time to leave Seattle. We decided early in the planning that this trip would not be about cities, but more about National Parks, open highways and outstanding scenery. So we were not sad to leave the city, as we had a very big drive ahead of us today. The plan was to head clear across the state to Spokane, Washington. We headed through the tunnel from the city, up through Snoqualmie and into the gorgeous Cascade Mountain Range. Heading across Washington after the Cascades we found more prairie like landscapes again. The weather today was fantastic and as we got close to Spokane we made a quick call, cancelled our hotel reservation and booked further up the road. We wanted to have less driving tomorrow and more time to enjoy what we were seeing. This new plan lead us through the Mountains of the panhandle of Idaho. And we have just crossed into a new state for us! We can check MONTANA off our 50 states list!
We are in Missoula. Home of the U of Montana Grizzlies. In fact the stadium is right next door! Can't wait for some new adventures in Montana over the next few days. Hoping there are some wildlife sighting amongst them. Good night from BIG SKY COUNTRY!!!!! ![]() Todays adventures took us Up! and Up! and UP! We left Missoula and headed into the mounatains off the highway. The winding dirt roads took us on a 20 minute drive off the highway and up to the very high and abandoned town of Garnet. If you really want to experience Montana. This is definitely a way to do it. Garnet was a booming mine town of about 1000 people just before the turn of the 1900's. It produced gold, and silver. The mine stopped producing by the 40's and was completely abandoned by all residents by the 1960's. Today the mining town is being preserved so that visitors like us can walk through time and be a part of it again. Being up in the unpopulated areas of the mountain also gave us a true Montana experience. Those much anticipated wildlife sightings. A young Grizzly (confirmed by a local) and a Young Big Horn sheep. After we wound our way back down the mountain side, we found the historic and picturesque town of Philipsburg. The town is famous for it's sapphire mines. And you can even give it a try. By purchasing a bucket of mine dirt, you can then sloush and look for the sapphires. We gave this a try. And yes!!!! we found some. We had it weighed and appraised and we have 5 carats that we can have cut, and another 8 that are flawed. So a very cool experience and find. After we finished mining we walked down the historic Philipsburg main street and stumbled across this place! I think they may have had every candy invented and loved. Our family loved a good slice of fudge, so that's what we decided to pick up while here. After Philipsburg it was back on the main highway and heading east to Bozeman, MT. What scenery we had to enjoy along the way. We hope you enjoy these Montana photos too. We have arrived in Bozeman! The end of the trail for today!
Heading for some dinner and a swim in the pool. Then bed time and up early for a big adventure tomorrow. STAY TUNED. We left Bozeman and headed 1.5 hours southwest to the town of Gardiner, MT. Gardiner lies at the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. In Gardiner we made our way high into the hills to the Hells a Roarin Ranch. Can you see the buildings in this photo, that's where we were headed? Before leaving home we had made a reservation at Hells a Roarin Outfitters http://www.hellsaroarinoutfitters.com/ for a 2 hour trail ride. What a great experience it was to be on a working Montana Ranch. We were so pleased with how well the kids handled their horses, and Em didn't stop smiling from the moment she saddled up on her horse HICKORY. Ethan rode CALGARY, Jason's horse was EX, and I rode on a horse named BADGER. After the ranch we headed back down the hill and entered the gates of Yellowstone National Park. Another new Park, and another new state. WE ARE IN WYOMING!!!!! We made the most of the amazing weather and decide to head to see some of the most famous locations within the park. Luckily the crowds and traffic agreed with us this day and we found parking at all of them. Our first stop was Mammoth Springs which is very close to the North Gate. From Mammoth we headed 40 miles south to the bottom loop of the Park because we really wanted to see some thermal springs, the mud pots and the Prismatic Pools. Yellowstone has 2/3 of the worlds geysers and thermal features. There are boardwalks around these areas we were able to get closer to. But make sure you stay on them because that water is 170 degrees. Here is alink to learn more about these thermal features if you are interested. http://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/photosmultimedia/iy-hydrothermalfeatures.htm Now you know we couldn't come to Yellowstone without seeing its most famous feature. OLD FAITHFUL!!!! We arrived about 20 minutes before it was next scheduled to erupt so we found a great view spot and waited. We were told it was due to go off around 6:29 give or take 10 mintes either side, and at 6:36 Old Faithful did not disappoint!. An Old Faithful eruption lastes about 3 minues or so. Before Eruption: During Eruption: Geological Features were not the only sightings we had today. We also saw some of the animal kind. There are many Elk throughout the park. We saw many making themselves at home in Mammoth Springs. We also saw a Prong horn
Today was the very first day on this trip that we had rain. But we were not going to let that dampen our enthusiasm for the adventure we were sure to have today, and we were not disappointed. Today we decided to check out some of the hiking trails and water falls around the park. And to also drive the loop. Here is a fun map for you to follow along with us. We headed for the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone area. Here are some of the pictures we captured there. The rain continued during the day, but it depended on where you were in the park. The Canyon area rained all day, but at higher elevations it was often sunny. We stopped in Mammoth at a sunny moment to explore it again. This time we hiked the trail to the top. Here is another Mammoth picture. From Mammoth we moved east to the Lamar Valley where we had the best moment of our day... BISON! EVERYWHERE!!!!!! A little further up the valley we found some more even closer to us near the road. Check out the sky, the rain was headed right for us. And then the rain hit hard!!!! And the Bison got even closer!!! After a full day of hiking and bison viewing it was dinner time so we headed back to our motel in West Yellowstone and had dinner at a restaurant called The Slippery Otter.
Can't wait until tomorrow and another great day. Naturalist John Muir said the Mountians are calling and I must go! We are taking his advice and heading south out of Yellowstone today to see the mountains. But we will make a stop again at Old Faithful! Unfortunately this time we were too early for the geyser, and didn't have time to wait the 90 minutes, as we have some miles to cover. But while we were here we did stop in at the giant Old Faithful Inn. http://www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/lodging/summer-lodges/old-faithful-inn/ Built in 1903 it is considered to be the largest log structure in the world. It is gorgeous! We also checked out the General Store at Old Faithful Lodge as you can see, we each got ourselves some new sweatshirts. That 110 degree temperature we had last week, is very different than the 52 degrees in Yellowstone early in the morning. On the way out of Yellowstone we also saw so many thermal spots. They almost look like little campfires from a distance. One of the cool geography lessons we were able to give the kids on this trip was teaching them all about the continental divide. http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/contdiv.htm Which we actually crossed over 4 times on this trip! Here are some pictures from the south end of Yellowstone. Including Yellowstone Lake, and Lewis Falls. Named after Merriweather Lewis of Lewis and Clark. We knew we were getting close to the south gate and approaching our next National Park. Because suddenly the road in front of us gave us the views of the Giant Teton mountains approaching. Grand Teton National Park! (pronounced - Grand TEA-ton.) Gorgeous Mountains that just make everything else seem so small. While driving today we saw a few more Bison, some Elk, Eagles, Osprey, a baby Black Bear, and then in Grand Teton caught sight of these Prong Horn and Bison grazing together. We made our way further south through the Tetons. Where the tops were covered in clouds and the glaciers often visable. At the south end of the Grand Tetons we reached a little town I have always wanted to visit. Jackson Hole Wyoming. Back in my skiing days this would have been the perfect place for me. We stopped in Jackson Hole for a little while to stretch out and check out the town. Then it was time to head over those mountains instead of through them, and cross back into Idaho . And soon we were out of the mountains and back in the prairie valleys winding along the same Snake River in Idaho, just like we were on the first day of this trip. We are now in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Before we found our hotel though we had one special stop to make. The Idaho Falls Public Library. (I know, not a surprise for this family) Ethan read a book this past year with his class called Where The Red Fern Grows. It is about a boy named Billy who buys and trains coon hunting dogs, right here along Snake River in Idaho. The public library has a sculpture honouring that book, and our boy wanted to see it. ... our day didn't end here....
Kids could not figure out why we wanted them to get in the car at 8:30 at night. We didn't tell them where we were going, but they were pretty excited when we got there. Idaho Falls has a Drive In movie theatre!!!!!! We saw Minions!!!!! It was our latest night that we stayed up on this trip. We got back to the hotel after 1:00 EST. But our temperatures are back up into the 80s which is nice, especially with being outside tonight. Today we leave Idaho and head back to Utah. A bittersweet home stretch as we have gone full circle, sad to see it starting to come to an end. So excited that we still have two days left to experience everything that we can. We slept in a little bit this morning after staying up late for the Drive In Theatre last night, and we were on the road shortly after 9 am. But before we could leave Idaho there was one stop we had to make..... When in Idaho, you just have to visit the Potato Museum...am I right???? hehe For a small fee you can tour and learn everything you ever wished to know about the Potato. and upon departure they even give you a free package of Instant Potatoes. Here are some photos from the museum. The worlds largest pringle. A collection of potato mashers and of course a picture of one of the humorous tshirts they had for sale. The museum only took us about a half hour and soon were heading south down HWY 15 and across the state line into Utah. And once again the scenery changes. Though we leave out of Salt Lake City tomorrow, we have decided to head into the hills to the smaller Park City. It is here we will spend the night. We were excited to arrive in Park City and knew we were in the right place when this came into view. Park City Utah was home to many of the events of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Downhill, Bobsledding, Ski Jumping, and Aerials to name a few. We had previously decided to visit the Olympic Park this day and check out some of their summer activities. When we arrived at the park we were able to check out the Salt Lake Olympic Museum. The museum held Puppets and Costumes used for the Opening Ceremonies. The Mascots, film displays of the top Olympic Moments, and even some Olympic Medals. I will admit that walking through the displays I had a bit of a flashback thinking of the tiny baby boy I had just brought home the month before, and watching these specific olympics with him on my lap. Hard to believe that Salt Lakes Games were 13 years ago! After the museum we went outside to the pool area. This is where the aerial olympians practice in the summer. We lucked out, and were able to watch some young atheletes in training perform their aerials. Next we headed up the Mountain a little Bit to see some of the other facilities. Like the Ski Jumps. These are not new to me. Growing up in Thunder Bay I lived only a couple km's away from the Big Thunder Canadian Ski Training Center. We used to watch ski jump competitions all the time. Showing one to my kids was pretty cool today. Now we didn't just visit the Olympic Park to watch other people participate in what some may call extreme sports. No we decided we would try something new too. So Ziplining it was. We rode the chair lift up the hill to the zipline tower. And then at the top we were loaded two at a time into our harnesses. Ethan and I went first! And then took this photo of Jason and Emily coming down behind us. Here comes our adventurous girl!!!!! Some more photos from Utah Olympic Park. After the park we headed downtown to get some dinner. We were starving!!!
http://www.flanagansonmain.com/ Flanagans on Main is where we decided to eat. Some really good IriSh Pub Fare, that filled our tummy's. We have now checked into our home for the night. We had previously decided to stay out of Salt Lake and treat ourselves to a little mountain oasis for our last hotel night on this vacation. We are taking advantage of Jason's Hilton loyalty status and are staying right in the Canyins Ski Resort at the Hilton Vacations Sunrise Lodge. http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/utah/sunrise-lodge-hilton-grand-vacations-SLCSEGV/index.html We have a two room condo, so lots of room to stretch out relax and reorganize and repack all our bags before our flight tomorrow. But once that is done a walk up the mountain and a swim in the pool may not be far behind. Tomorrow we get to sleep in a bit before heading back to Salt Lake City. So good night from the Canyons. See you tomorrow from the airport!!!!! I was texting my brother in law Mike while in Jackson Hole, WY, and teasing him by saying we were having such a great time that we might not come home.
Well yesterday morning we left Park City, headed to the airport. Dropped off our rental car and waited for our flight. We were to leave Salt Lake for Denver at 3:00 , Flying from Denver to Detroit at 5:30. Getting us home at 10:00 Detroit time! Cool! But before we left Salt Lake, we discovered that our connection in Denver was already delayed by 3 hours. A sand storm in Pheonix was backing planes up. Who knew that that delay would actually be AMAZING for us. At 2:20 we boarded our plane for Denver. A bumpy take off because of some weather pockets around the mountains, and an hour later we had arrived in Denver...kind of. We circled the airport in the air, and then were told that we were returning to Salt Lake City because the Denver air traffic tower and the terminal had just been evacuated because tornados had been sighted in the area. So back we flew to Salt Lake. We were now two hours behind schedule.... Once we waited out the weather for another 45 minutes on the plane, and after they had refueled us, we were back in the air and headed for Denver. We landed in Denver around 8:30 and found out that our flight had been delayed another hour! This meant it looked like we would make our flight home. (And not have to sleep in an airport again like we did coming home from Albuquerque in October.) The original 5:30 flight from Denver to Detroit was now 10:00 pm, landing us in Detroit at 3:00 am. We seem to always get an interesting adventure home when we fly west to east! Even this little hiccup doesnt change a thing for the amazing time we had. Today we are happy to be home! Though Mike, we almost did stay out west!!!!! |
