Woke up to a beautiful sunny day shining over the Copenhagen airport. We took our time, eating breakfast and repacking our suitcases to make everything fit, and leisurely strolling back into the airport to board yet another flight. It was time to say goodbye to continental Europe. What a whirlwind week it has been, but new adventures lay ahead of us. Goodbye Copenhagen! Perhaps we'll see you again one day! We flew out on another Icelandic airline flight, and are headed back to Keflavik airport on the island nation of ICELAND. Iceland is an island of volcanoes, glaciers, puffins, geysers, whales, sheep and so much more. We are excited to see and explore everything this country has to offer. Our flight from Copenhagen took about 3 hours, and at 3 p.m, Icelandic time, we were about to land! Now one would think we would land, grab our luggage, rent our car and be ready to make the 49 km drive into the city, and that we would have time to explore this evening. One would have thought that was going to be possible. This is where we had to just roll with it. First the luggage convery belts were not working on the baggage carousel in which we were to retrieve our suitcases. No problem. We dealt with waiting for Jason's case to come off about 3o minutes after mine. Then we made our way through the over crowded airport ( see previous mention of airport too small for number of visitors on Day 1 post) , to find the care rental kiosks. This is where we had to find some patience. At 3:50 p.m. we were met with a line up like we had never seen for car rentals. The line took us 2 hours and 18 minutes to make it from when I took this picture, until we stepped up to the counter. But we finally got our rental vehicle, and made our way to the parking lot where we found an SUV that will take us around the island for the next few days. Jason thinks it need s a big strong Icelandic name.. like THOR! Yes, our family has a weird tradition of naming our rental cars.
Olaf in Norway. Albert in Albuquerque and so on.... We left the airport to not so sunny weather. In fact it was almost sleet. The lovely 20 degree weather from Copenhagen is now only 9 degrees C here. WELCOME TO ICELAND!!! But after an hour drive we have made it to our hotel. It is 8:30 p.m. here. We have yet to have dinner, which we are going to go downstairs and do shortly, as we made a 9 p.m. reservation when we arrived. The Hilton Nordica hotel is lovely and as we sit here looking out our corner window, the sky appears to be clearing up a little bit. Our plans for discovering Reykjavik tonight didn't work out as we planned because of the three hour hold up at the airport. But you know what. Sometimes you just have to roll with it. That's travel! Tomorrow we hope to have lots to share, and hopefully sunny skies in which to see it all. Sorry there isn't much to see and share with you from today. But with WiFi access from our vehicle over the next couple days, we'll try to share some of the sights and adventures live with you too. Goodnight from Reykjavik , Iceland!
