To move, to breath, to fly, to float, To gain all while you give, To roam the roads of lands remote, To travel is to live. - Hans Christian Anderson After a few really long days with quite early mornings we allowed ourselves a little bit of a sleep in today. For me it was needed. We have finally adjusted to the time change, and last night was the first full uninterrupted night of sleep I was able to get. Feeling rested and rejuvenated we were ready to take on today. We woke up in our beautiful Nordic hotel just outside Oslo, and drove back to the Oslo airport, where we said goodbye to trusty little Olaf, and checked in for our Scandinavia Airlines flight to Copenhagen. Our flight was a little bit delayed, but we made the most of that too. I caught up on reading some of the lovely blog messages from all of you, a couple emails and photos from my sister, and I got a chance to text Ethan :) So we didn't waste that time. Soon we were boarded, and just as we got up in the air it felt like the landing wheels were coming down and we were back in Copenhagen again. Today on our return to Denmark we completed the Scandinavian Triangle. The sun is shining and the weather is beautiful, so we quickly checked back into the hotel again ( same one we stayed at last Friday here).. received the same wonderful upgrade at check in...GO HILTON HONOURS!!!! and immediately headed back out into the city to explore some more. We hopped on the metro, and rode back to the famous Nyhavn Harbour area, and this time decided to take one of the boat tours to see Copenhagen from the water. The Fortress The Royal Palace of Amalienburg The Opera House. Our guide told us in the summer they do a cliff diving competition off of it and into the harbour! Yikes! There was one more thing we were kind of excited to see in the Harbour. The Little Mermaid based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale. (Before Disney took hold of the tale). Hans Christian Anderson is a beloved resident of Copenhagen. His stories live through all our childhoods. He has a street and museum, and even looks out over the famous Tivoli Amusement and Children's Park here. Here I am with the monument in his honour. The boat tour was a great way to see so much of Copenhagen by the water. But we also took time to walk about the city again this evening as well. Copenhagen has so many bicycles. It is the mode of transportation for its residents. There is a bike lane, with its own street lights. You really have to watch out for cyclists. They are everywhere, and can go at quite a speed. More of the lovely historic sights of Copenhagen, Denmark. Even though I am here, it is still sometimes hard to believe it. Wandering through these cities, especially Stockholm and Copenhagen you feel the age, and the history of the buildings and streets. You can't help of think of the people who have lived here for centuries, through wars and generations of families living among each other. Neighbours meeting at the restaurants, and markets in the squares, or in the courtyards below their apartment homes. Jason asked me if I could live in a city like this. What a thought provoking question it has turned out to be. It does make you more aware, makes you watch people and how they move about the city. What their routines are? I think I enjoy the space of the outdoors and natural surroundings. But visiting and pretending to be a city dweller is fun for a little while. Even if only for today. We just finished a lovely dinner together here at this restaurant. Sitting outside, watching Copenhagen dine along with us and walk the streets around us. It was nice to slow down, and soak it in for a while. It was nice to be part of this city for even just a moment. It was nice to feel like we were a part of it. We have returned to the hotel now, it is dark and another day has come to an end. Goodnight from Copenhagen. xo D&J - Thanks for traveling with us.
